She sprinted the rest of the way, navigating around the trees as she heard Silvia once again.

\erstand what a mistake she made, "He Said with a sardonic grin." Is not that right,

redhead? "The snarled appellative to WAS meant to mock the young girl.

Pepa slowly and Deliberately Placed the bag on her own WHERE WAS Silvia grass rising near to her own feet. Silvia Scattered Had not finished gathering her belongings, But She Was Preparing to Have to Intervene if the situation Escalated anymore.

"If You Do not walk away now, I'm
going to make you

“You could say that,” Pepa replied, finally lifting her head.

“What? What happened? Are you okay?” Silvia fired more questions back, stepping away from the entrance to let Pepa walk inside.

The taller girl took slow steps in and dropped her bookbag on the floor. In doing so, she extended her torso a bit and hissed in pain. “Pepa!”

“That asshole sucker punched me,” she revealed under her breath, gingerly walking to the sofa and lowering herself to the cushions.

“Did you…” she already had an idea about what happened, but she asked anyway, “did you get into a fight with Armando?”

Chapter 2 (Part 2) ~*~*~*~*~

16 years Before

"But, it's her birthday! I can not miss her birthday! "The brunette started up again as she dusted a bookshelf in the corner of the room, doing little more Than shifting the dust from one shelf to the Other.

'Pepa, youknow your father Said You Were grounded, and That's That. You're not allowed to leave this house except to go to school, "as she Said Concha Continue to wipe the end table. There Was a small waver in her voice, Though, Revealing just a hint of Weakness to her daughter. Her resolve wasn't nearly as solid as she'd like it to appear, And She Was Starting to regret making Pepa help her clean the house as part of her punishment - the girl Had done more begging and cleaning Than That evening she just HAD Said 'no' for the umpteenth time.

Pepa Knew But her persistence WAS softening her mother, as it always did, so she pressed her Advantage, crocodile tears filling her eyes .... She was quite adept at turning on the theatrics When NECESSARY. "But, Mom , I saved up and got her a present with my allowance money and everything. Can’t I just go over to give her the present?? I know she wants me to be there. If I don’t go, it’s like she’s being punished, too, and she’s not the one who got in trouble at school.”

Her mother let out a long, drawn-out sigh, so Pepa continued. “It can be just for a little while since the party was earlier. Paco can take me since he was going to go over there for dinner with the family anyway. And then he can bring me back, all before Papá even gets home! Please, pleeeaase, I can’t miss my best friend’s birthday…” Pepa clasped her hands in front of her in supplication, letting a giant tear roll down her cheek for added effect.

She ed out past the edge of the box on a few ends, and the paper was just a little crooked making the pink, yellow, and blue balloons almost look as if they were floating down the top of the box instead of lining up straight across it. But she had bought and wrapped it all herself, and she knew Silvia wouldn’t mind how it looked.

It wasn’t too long before Paco was knocking at the door, and Pepa immediately reacted, speeding to the door and reaching the knob before her mother did. Paco was about to walk inside, thinking it wouldn’t hurt to talk to Concha for a few minutes, but the anxious brunette none-so-gently pushed him back away from the door, letting herself out along with him. Before shutting the door and shuffling a harried Paco back to the car, she turned around and yelled one last ‘thank you’ to her mother.

Driving to Don Lorenzo’s house, Paco glanced at his younger sister in the passenger seat. She was nearly bouncing with nervous energy, a small, wrapped box balanced precariously on her lap. “I know you were grounded, but I’m glad Mamá let you come over tonight. Lola told me that Silvia was pretty upset that you couldn’t go to her party, so I know she’ll be happy to see you.”

“Yeah, and it’s better this way, too,” she said. Paco looked at her inquisitively before turning his eyes back to the road, so Pepa explained, “I didn’t really want to go to her party because I kinda don’t like her other friends,” her nose scrunched and her brow furrowed in a look of distast walked through the doorway and leaned over to give the girl an affectionate hug. His sister followed closely at his back, still crouched over and lightly stepping her way inside. As soon as Paco pulled away from the hug and took a step back, Pepa jumped to the side, away from her cover and yelled, “Surprise! Happy Birthday!”

The redhead’s face was a sight. A look of confused dismay – she never really liked surprises – melted away to a radiant smile once it clicked that Pepa, who she didn’t think she was going to see today, was actually standing there in front of her, a small gift in her hand and a matching smile on her own face.

Paco walked further into the sparsely furnished house to look for Lola or Don Lorenzo, while the girls happily pulled Each Other Into a giant bear hug and Silvia WAS quick to Initiate an investigation, shooting a barrage of questions at her best friend. "Are not you grounded? Did not you tell me Could you eat? How did you get permission? Or Were You Being grounded lying about to surprise me? "Pepa

flummoxed Laugh at the redhead. "No, I am grounded and I wasn't supposed to Be Able to leave the house, But I Talk Into Letting my mom eats me." Silvia WAS well aware of Pepa's Ability to persuade her mother to change her mind ... she May Have Never Had Any luck with her father, But She Was Almost Always Successful WHERE WAS her mother concerned. Concha wasn't great at sticking to her guns, And She Was Easily flustered, so it Was Never too Difficult for Pepa to get her way.

“Well, I’m glad you’re here!” The redhead exclaimed, smiling again and pulling her friend in for another hug. “Dinner won’t be ready for another hour I think, so we can go to my room for a while.”

Silvia took her friend by the hand and led her down the hallway. “We’ll have to be quiet though because Sarita is asleep on my bed.”

“Sara? Asleep at this hour?”

“I know, she usually doesn’t fall asleep until much later, but she was running around all day trying to help get things ready for the party and then she was playing with my friends and me. It was enough to tire her out.”

“I didn’t think it was possible to tire her out.”

The two arefully undo the wrapping, Struggling Through the Excessive Amount of tape Had Used Pepa.

"I know I did not do Such a good job of wrapping it ..."

"The wrapping's just fine. I Love That you did it yourself. "

She Knew Would not mind the bad Silvia wrapping, But Even So, she felt herself blush a little as the redhead paused her ministrations to send a mega-watt smile her way. The wrapping and Silvia ultimately Gave way Lift the lid slowly off the box she found underneath the paper. She put the lid down on the floor next to her and Look Inside.

square Sitting on a cushion of gauzy Was a delicate, silver charm bracelet. She pulled the bracelet out and held it up to look at it. It Had only one charm hanging offeave it alone. Pepa could be a little rough around the edges and defiant, and even her father didn’t think she was a good influence on her, but Silvia knew the thoughtful side of the rebellious girl. The side responsible for this gift that not only was pretty, but showed that the brunette just naturally assumed they’d be friend years from now and expected to get Silvia a meaningful gift each year. That’s why she was friends with Pepa. And of course there was the fact that she made her laugh more than anyone else could. “Here, help me put it on,” Silvia entreated, and once they had gotten the bracelet clasped, she threw her arms around Pepa and hugged her again.

They soon fell into conversation, Silvia detailing the events of her day and Pepa eventually Launching Into a retelling of why she got Into trouble at school. The minutes flew by as They shared stories, the redhead side gently fiddling with the strawberry charm hanging from her wrist the whole time, and Before They Knew it, it WAS time for dinner.
